(but be aware that LO and OO normally runs in single user mode. On the other hand, this would also be job security. Of course, these free solutions would very much be a roll your own from scratch situation.

You could use a lot of other solutions like the LibreOffice Base software.

The more automated it is, the pricier it gets. Other wise I would look at other solutions although as lot depends on your budget. I originally got into it because a client had an ERP solution setup that was based on Filemaker, but the original developer company bailed on the client. You can find older copies of Filemaker on Amazon, etc and still get a feature upgrade, etc.

I set this up with a client a couple of years ago in FileMaker 10 for a machine shop. This is pretty much as simple as it sounds, although YMMV You can print out labels with the barcodes on them, etc. So all you need is to have the focus in the correct field, and the bar codes formatted with the correct information, which can be numeric, text, etc. The scan producing the data string is essentially like text entry from a keyboard. It is a huge system, and making changes for a single individual doesn't happen that quickly. While you are looking to move to another system, Filemaker is able to use common scanner guns, etc. I've sent this requirement to them, but I doubt if that's going to happen. It would be good if it has a little bit different organizational structure so that you could put your shared stuff in one place, and it loads the stuff. When I write a complex function and I want to use it in two or three different databases, I have to copy it to each one of them and also remember where all it is used. I can then call them from any database that I happen to be using.Ĭurrently, you have a database open that has all of its data pieces and program pieces, and then you open another database that has got all of its data pieces and program pieces. I wouldn't mind an infrastructure where I had a file, and on loading the program, this file is loaded with the functions that I had written. So, I have to copy them from one database to another. I write stuff, and some of the functions are shared across different databases. I would like to be able to easily share scripts between different databases. They should make a structure so that you can have the data in one file and the app, the scripts, and the program in another file. There is some organizational stuff that I'd like to see done differently. They're always improving it, and I have been quite pleased with their improvements.
